Privacy and cookies

Last updated 21 October 2026

The short version

  • I only collect what I need: mainly your email address, if you sign up.
  • I never sell your details or share them for anyone else's marketing.
  • The pay calculators run on your own device. What you type into them isn't sent to me.
  • Ads and their cookies only switch on if you say yes, and you can change your mind any time.
  • You can unsubscribe, see your data or ask me to delete it whenever you like.

Who I am

This website, jazelux.com, is run by Jaze Lux, an author and NHS nurse based in Cambridge, UK. In this policy, "I", "me" and "my" mean Jaze Lux, and "you" means anyone who visits the site, signs up or buys from it.

For data protection law, I'm the "controller" of the personal information collected through this site. That means I decide how it's used and I'm responsible for looking after it.

Questions about your data?Email hello@jazelux.com. I aim to reply within a few days, and always within one month.

What I collect

Information you give me

  • Your email address, when you sign up for the free guides, Volume Two updates or the Learn Tagalog waitlist.
  • Anything you write to me, if you email me or reply to one of my emails.
  • Order details (name, email and what you bought) if you buy a guide or workbook. Payment card details go straight to the payment provider. I never see them.

Information collected automatically

  • Visit statistics: pages viewed, the type of device and browser, the country you're visiting from and the site that sent you. I use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts visits without cookies and without identifying you.
  • Email activity: whether my emails are opened and which links are clicked, so I know what's useful. You can block this by turning off images in your email app.
  • Technical logs: like most websites, the hosting provider briefly processes your IP address to deliver pages and protect the site from attacks.

I don't ask for, and don't want, sensitive information such as health details. Please don't send it to me.

Why I use it, and the legal basis

UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018) says I need a lawful reason for each use of your information:

Send you the free guides, updates and newsletters you signed up forYour consent, which you can withdraw any time

The email list

My email list is run by Kit (formerly ConvertKit). When you sign up, Kit stores your email address, the form you used, when you joined and how you interact with my emails.

You'll get a confirmation email first. You're only added to the list once you tap the button in it.

Every email has an unsubscribe link at the bottom. One tap and you're off the list, no questions asked.

The free tools

The NHS pay calculator, the UK take-home pay calculator and any other tools on this site do their sums in your browser. The salary, hours and other figures you enter are not sent to me or stored on any server.

To save you typing them again, the calculators remember your last inputs in your browser's own storage on your device. You can clear this at any time by clearing your browser's site data.

Buying from me

  • Books are sold by Amazon. When you buy, you're dealing with Amazon under their own privacy policy, and I don't receive your details.
  • PDF guides and workbooks are sold through Payhip, which handles checkout, payment and delivery. Payhip shares your name, email and order with me so I can support you and keep my accounts.
  • Positivo merch is sold through Fourthwall, a separate shop with its own privacy policy.

Cookies

Cookies are small files a website saves in your browser. Similar storage on your device works the same way, so I include it here too.

I keep cookies to a minimum. When you first visit, a banner asks whether you accept non-essential cookies. Nothing non-essential is switched on unless you choose Accept all. You can change your choice at any time with the Cookie settings link at the bottom of every page.

Ads aren't running on the site yet. When they are, Google's consent message will let you choose which advertising partners can use cookies. You can learn more in how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

You can also block or delete cookies in your browser's settings. Essential cookies help the site work properly, so blocking them may break small things like remembering your cookie choice.

Who I share data with

I never sell your personal information. I only share it with the services that help me run the site, and only what they need:

  • Kit: email list and sending emails
  • Cloudflare: website hosting, security and cookie-free visit statistics
  • Payhip: selling and delivering digital guides and workbooks
  • Google: my email inbox and, if you allow it, advertising

Each of these acts under its own privacy commitments. I may also share information if the law requires it, for example with HMRC for tax.

Data outside the UK

Some of these services are based in, or store data in, the United States and other countries. When your data leaves the UK, it's protected by safeguards UK law recognises, such as the UK–US Data Bridge or the UK's approved contract clauses.

How long I keep it

  • Email list: until you unsubscribe. I also tidy the list from time to time and remove addresses that haven't opened an email in a long while.
  • Order records: for six years, because UK tax rules require it.
  • Emails you send me: only as long as needed to help you, usually no more than two years.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the information I hold about you
  • have anything wrong corrected
  • have your information deleted
  • object to, or ask me to limit, how I use it
  • take your information elsewhere in a common format
  • withdraw your consent at any time, for example by unsubscribing

To use any of these, email hello@jazelux.com. It's free, and I'll respond within one month.

If you're unhappy with how I've handled your information, please tell me first so I can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

Children

This site is meant for adults. I don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you think a child has signed up, email me and I'll delete their details.

Changes and contact

I'll update this page if anything changes, for example when I add a new service, and change the date at the top. If it's a big change, I'll tell everyone on the email list.
