Tip: have your latest payslip handy. Your tax code, hours and pension are all on it, and you can compare the result line by line.

1Your job

2Unsocial hours this month

Hours you work in each period. Band 5: +30% on weekday nights and Saturdays, +60% on Sundays and bank holidays.

3Extra hours and overtime

Part-time? Extra hours up to 37.5 a week are paid at your normal rate. Overtime beyond that is time and a half, or double time on bank holidays.

4Bank shifts this month

Bank pay uses your band and step, plus the same unsocial-hours rates. Many trusts add their own bank bonus on top.

5Deductions

Your tax code and pension status are on your payslip.

Other payments

This is an estimate for the 2026/27 tax year using official Agenda for Change pay scales, HMRC and Scottish income tax rates, NHS pension tiers and student loan thresholds. It works month by month, so your payslip can differ slightly because payroll works out tax across the whole year so far. It isn't financial advice.
