How this site earns money
Everything on jazelux.com is free to read and use: the guides, the calculators and the phrasebook. To keep it that way, the site earns money in a few ways:
- Affiliate and referral links to products and services I use.
- Sponsors and partners who pay to be featured.
- Ads from Google on some pages.
- My own products: my books, Positivo merch and paid downloads.
- Donations, if you choose to buy me a coffee.
This page explains each one, and how you can tell when it applies. I follow the UK advertising rules (the CAP Code), which say paid content must be obvious as soon as you see it.
Affiliate and referral links
An affiliate link is a special link that tells a shop or app you came from my site. If you buy something or sign up through it, they may pay me a small commission. The price you pay is exactly the same as if you'd gone there directly.
How to spot them
Pages with affiliate links have a short note at the top, and the links themselves carry a small label:
Referral links
Some apps, like Wise, run "invite a friend" schemes. If you join through my referral link, I may get a reward, and the app sometimes gives you a welcome offer too, such as a fee-free first transfer. The offer is set by the app and can change, so check their page before you sign up.
Amazon
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
The same applies to other shops I may link to, such as Shopee.
Why I use them
I only link to things I've used, or would happily tell my own family about. If something has downsides, I'll say so. Earning a commission never decides what goes on a page; whether it's actually useful to you does.
Sponsors and partners
Sometimes a company pays to be featured on the site, in an email or in a video. When that happens:
- It is labelled clearly at the start, so you know before you read or watch:
- The "Featured partner" spaces on the site are paid placements, and are marked as such.
- If a company sends me something for free, I'll label it Gifted, even if they didn't ask for a review.
- Sponsors can check facts about their own product, but they don't get to write or approve my opinion.
- I only say yes to brands I believe are genuinely useful to people living and working abroad.
The partner logos on the Work with me section are companies I have, or have had, a paid or working relationship with.
My own products
My books (the Passport, Peso and Purpose series), the Positivo merch shop and the paid downloads are my own. When I mention them, I'm promoting something I earn from. I think that's obvious, but I'd rather say it plainly.
Books are sold through Amazon, merch through Fourthwall and downloads through Payhip. Each of those companies handles your payment and has its own terms.
Ads on the site
Some pages, mainly the free tools and guides, show ads from Google AdSense. They're kept separate from the main content and marked as ads. I don't choose the individual ads you see, and showing an ad doesn't mean I recommend that product.
Ads that use cookies only switch on if you agree. You can change your choice any time; see Privacy and cookies for the details.
Money and travel tips
I share what has worked for my own family, as a nurse living in the UK and sending money home. It's general information, not financial, legal or immigration advice, and I'm not a regulated adviser.
- Fees, exchange rates, tax rules and offers change often. Always check the latest figures with the provider before you decide.
- Where I recommend one app or service, it's still worth comparing a few. The best choice depends on how much you send, where to and how fast.
- If I ever link to an investing app: the value of investments can go down as well as up, and you may get back less than you put in.
YouTube and social media
The same rules apply on TheLucios Life and the Jaze Lux channels. Paid partnerships are marked using the platform's own "paid promotion" setting and said out loud or shown on screen near the start. Affiliate links in video descriptions are labelled too.
Questions
If something on the site isn't clearly labelled, or you'd like to know whether I earn from a particular link, just ask. I'll always tell you.
